If you guys have been reading my Tweets recently, you'll know that Jeff has received 2 very generous offers from a university in Minneapolis and a matching one from a school in Rhode Island. The Minneapolis one came on Monday and we were STOKED because it was the first out of 3 offers that paid a very good amount of money. Not to mention them paying to move us out there and paying for his citizenship crap beforehand. (BTW..I'm not surprised there are so many illegals. It costs a few thousand dollars to do it the right way...that's IF you have a sponsor)
Jeff sent a courtesy email to the Rhode Island school yesterday morning informing them that he received another offer. The RI school was still deliberating and Jeff wanted them to know that he will probably be taking himself out of the running...he was one of the two remaining candidates. It was a surprise when the person from RI wrote back and told him he was their #1 pick and they're going to rush and make him an offer.
Ok. So without naming names, let me give you some background on the schools. Minn school is Catholic and has 10k + students. RI school has about 3k students and is also a private school. For those reasons alone we figured they wouldn't be able to hold a tealight to the Minneapolis offer. The RI guy called Jeff today and asked flat out what the other offer was. Jeff told him and the guy remarked, "Wow. You would be the highest paid professor on campus if we gave you that. I will have to bring it to the committee. I will be in touch by the end of the day." A few hours later he calls back with an offer. A matching offer. Hmmm....hence my Tweet about "Pin the Professor on the College."
There are pros and cons for both schools but we are leaning towards Minneapolis for a few reasons; the lower cost of living than RI, the higher research funding (an amount given to them during the summer in addition to their base salary) and the fact that I can go back and get my Masters and get tuition 75-85% taken care of. Tempting. The RI college doesn't even have a program of study I would want. So. A decision has to be made. Either way we have to try to sell this house and I have to bust out my old stripper's outfits for those open houses.
